What is the ideal meta description length?

Google truncates at roughly 155-160 characters on desktop, 120-130 on mobile. We aim for 150-160 — the longer band reads richer on desktop but still survives mobile truncation if the first 130 characters are strong.

Does Google always use my meta description?

No. Google rewrites about 60-70% of descriptions based on the query. A well-written description still influences CTR for the queries where Google does use it, and it gives Google a strong starting point for the ones it rewrites.

Should every page have a unique description?

Yes. Duplicate descriptions across pages confuse search engines and waste CTR. Even templated pages (e.g., product categories) should have distinct descriptions per page.

Does this work for non-English pages?

English is best-supported. The model can write in Spanish, French, and German, but the CTR ranking heuristics are tuned to English SERPs. We recommend a human review for non-English variants.
